Nae Nae’s World
He Spoke:

A dear friend asked me if I would help her out. I immediately said “Sure”! Then she proceeded to ask me to write about how God had been working in my life lately. I wanted to say “Nope”, but you really can’t do that after such a confident “Sure”! The lesson here is never say sure until you’re sure you’re sure. more…

Last night the kids asked if they could have a sleep over. This consists of all of the siblings sleeping in one room. I said yes they could “sleep over” at Charleigh’s but it was late so they only got “one chance” They understood this as meaning “keep your heads on your pillows and your feet to yourselves” It was already late so I told them if I had to come in and settle them down even once, then they would all go to their own bedrooms. In about 2 minutes Kaleb was kicking Joshua and Joshua was screaming and Charleigh was whining. I calmly went in and told them to go to their own beds; they had messed up their one chance. The boys got up with out a word, knowing they had no reason to argue they had but “one” chance and they had blew it.

After settling the boys in their own beds I turned off the light and walked down the hall, coming from Charleigh’s room was a sobbing like only a true drama queen can perform. I went in and asked her what was wrong and she sat up and boldly declared, “My God is a God of Second Chances!

(Apparently she had been watching Jonah a Veggie Tales Movie)

She threw her head into her pillow and repeated it over and over. I explained to her that while God has grace and compassion he also wants us to learn how to obey our parents and to learn that there are consequences for disobedience. Therefore the boys would get another chance to sleep over but it would not be that night.

A child stands alone in a crowd of busy Holiday shoppers. Lost. She searches frantically as the towering waves of legs and shopping bags almost knock her over. Her heart beats faster as she rushes from one isle to the next. “What do I do? Where do I go?” A speeding shopping cart nearly plows her over, the driver never even looking her way. Worn out and frightened she cowers under a rack of Christmas sweaters. Shaken she sits, too drained to search anymore, “Help me!” she cries out, “I am lost”. Just then a hand reaches down and grasps her own. She looks up and sees the eyes of her Daddy. Safety. She is not alone, she has been found by her father. He was looking for her the whole time, seeking her out, to hold her and save her. “Don’t be afraid, Daddy is here, I’m going to take care of you. ” His strong, warm words put her at ease as they walk off hand in hand.

For I am the LORD, your God,
who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.
Isaiah 41:13

Cuddle

“So you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus.” Galatians 3:26

After a difficult day with my children I was happy to get to bed. They had spent the day fighting with each other, testing limits, continually disobeying, and intentionally trying my patience. More than once my two year old knocked his little sister down or yelled, “yucky mama.”* It was one of those days that reassured me that two children was definitely enough. A few hours after going to sleep, both kids had found their way into our crowded queen size bed. At 3:30 in the morning, I woke up to find my one year old asleep on my tummy and my two year old cuddled up next to me with his head on my shoulder. During that tired moment, I didn’t think of their earlier behavior, I didn’t push them aside because of previous disobedience. I lovingly wrapped my arms around them. My love for my children has nothing to do with their actions. It is unconditional. No matter how many times my son mutters “yucky mama” I will still love him.

As I held my babies close I realized that God must love me the same way. It doesn’t matter what I have or haven’t done. His love for his children is unconditional. Despite all of our disobedience he longs to pull us close. He wants to wrap his loving arms around us and cuddle.

[Note to all of you concerned parents… no I don’t let my son get away with calling his mama yucky. Don’t worry.]
