The force of the storm, the flooding of the city, hundreds maybe thousands dead; all of these, I can believe. The concept that I am unable to wrap my mind around is how some people can be so evil. Gangs of thugs are stealing, raping, and killing. Why? How? I don’t understand it. I can’t grasp how in this day, in this country our own people are shooting at the very individuals who are trying to help them, to save them.

Lawlessness has so easily overcome them. Hate and violence have overtaking their hearts. I heard it said that the catastrophe had caused them to be this way; that the confusion, the stress, the shock have made them do this. NO. The tragedy has not caused this; this evil was already in them. They are just now taking the opportunity to show it and to use it. Katrina did not cause the evil she merely brought it into the open. In any time of hardship or trial a person’s true character shines through. Some are proven heroes and some villains; but they are not any different then the person they were before. They have merely shown the rest of us who they already were.

Who are you? If you were under pressure would you easily fall, justifying your actions by your hard times or would you take those difficulties and turn them into a chance to minister, to love, to help your fellow man? Who you are depends on whose you are. Who do you belong to? Good or Evil? The Lies or the Truth? God or Satan? You’d better decide right now. At anytime a circumstance could arise and who you have chosen to be will make all the difference.

God, please protect and forgive your children.

  1. There will always be evil in this world, we must pray for the Lords hedge of protection for our families.
I too wondered today about all the evil that was happening in the midst of the devastion. A thought came to my mind about the mentally ill who must be without their medications, and the families who are so distraught as their children cry out in hunger, children who have never been hungry in their lifes, Americans who have always been able to get whatever they wanted, because it was always at there fingertips.
God help me to be grateful, thankful, and more compassionate.Help me not to judge my fellow brother because I have not walked where he walked.Holy Spirit come and hover over our country and give us the peace that passes all understanding.
