I awoke to the sound of rain splashing on my bedroom window. The chill of the
air sent me running to the thermostat. I fumbled with the switch and headed back
to bed. An hour later I was greeted by the alarm clock as well as that distinct
smell of burnt dust that comes with the first annual heating of the furnace.
Mixed with the fresh aroma of the still falling rain the unpleasant smell was a
welcome scent. Fully contented I bounced out of bed and checked the thermometer.
It was a beautiful 45 degrees outside. I joyfully headed towards the children’s
room and pulled out long pants and sweaters for them to wear.

Autumn is officially here. Sure the calendar proclaimed Autumn’s equinox last
week but not until today did Fall show her precious face. These are the days of
pumpkins on porches, falling leaves of color, sweaters worn but left unbuttoned.
These are the days of change, the days of growing up and staying young. These
are the good ole days, the days we’ll look back on in years to come. Enjoy.

  1. While I look forward to spring coming each year; my favorite is fall. I love the look and feel of it. Cool mornings and warm afternoons. The smell of the leaves. The end of mowing.

  2. Awh, the end of mowing. We’re doing the last mowing today. I hope its the last anyway.
