Today we’re reading John 16.
It’s a very passionate and insightful chapter. Almost too much to point out so I’ll pick just a few verses.
7But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. 8When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt[a] in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment:
Holy Spirit, my couselor open my eyes to my own sin. Show me my heart that I might know what I need to change to be more like Christ.
13But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth.
Holy Spirit, show me the truth. Father show me who you are and who you want me to be.
24Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.
Your joy will be complete, WOW.
26In that day you will ask in my name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf. 27No, the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God.
I deleted this comment as it didn’t properly express my thoughts, I’ll come back to it later. . .
30Now we can see that you know all things and that you do not even need to have anyone ask you questions. This makes us believe that you came from God.”
31″You believe at last!”Jesus answered.
I like Jesus’s excitement here when he exclaims “You believe at last!”
33″I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

RE: Asking Mary to pray
On that same note, why do you ask other Christians to pray for or with you?
Tuesday, 7. March 2006
Ooooh good point. There are many a verse encouraging us to pray for each other as well as to go to each other asking for prayer. I’ll find those. You find the one encouraging us to ask the dead to pray for us.

Mathew 18:18 “I tell you the truth, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[e] loosed in heaven. 19″Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. 20For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.”
James 5:14-16
14Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. 16Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
Isaiah 8:19 should not a people inquire of their God? Why consult the dead on behalf of the living?
I do know that Christ is often referred to as an the high priest making intercession for us. . . hmmmm
I find nowhere in the Bible where we are encouraged to pray to or ask a dead person to pray for us.
