County Road
(Texas Sky: photofriday.com)
While the above picture is not spectacular I must share it due to what it represents. You see, I am an incurable shutterbug, this ailment often gets me in uncomfortable predicaments. One such situation occurred last Friday morning as drove home from the small town where my children attend school. I decided to take the scenic route and along the way I found what looked to me to be the opportunity for the “perfect picture”.
With my camera already around my neck I quickly pulled over.

Wearing the strappy sandals I swiped from my mom I climbed up a small ridge in search of a great shot. Once I got up there I realized the position of the sun was not conducive to good picture taking. Disappointed I took a few shots then decided to head back down to the van.

It was then that I realized the trip down wouldn’t be quite as easy as the climb up. I walked back and forth looking for a way down what now seemed a direct drop to a prickly, muddy, rocky death (or at least a painful break of a bone or two). I finally found what I thought would be the best bet down only to realize the recent rain had loosed all good footholds. After only a few choice steps I started to slip and grabbed hold of the sharp yucca plant you see in the
second picture.

Now, a Yucca is not the friendliest plant to cling to but it saved me from falling and helped me back up the ridge. Once  safely back on solid ground I
considered my lack of mobile phone as well at the danger to both me and my
precious camera then decided the only pain free way down was to walk along the ridge 1/8-1/4 mile till I could safely descend.

After arriving safely back at my ever so mommy-like mini van I turned and
took one last picture to remember my adventure.

Still not sure what a yucca plant looks like? Well here’s a picture of one a bit closer up: OUCH!
