All evening Kaleb has been quizzing me on Texas history. Sorry kid, I went to school in Oklahoma and my Lone Star knowledge consists mostly of quick facts on Dr. Pepper, Yellow Roses, and The Alamo. I could also tell you about the armadillo, the Cadillac ranch, and how Texas is the only state that can fly it’s flag at the same height as the American Flag. Besides that my state history is a bit lacking.
After realizing I had no Texas background Kaleb asked me what I knew about Oklahoma… Well, er…ummm…. Ok, how bout this:
Brand new state!
Brand new state, gonna treat you great!
Gonna give you barley, carrots and pertaters,
Pasture fer the cattle,
Spinach and termayters!
Flowers on the prarie where the June bugs zoom,
Plen’y of air and plen’y of room,
Plen’y of room to swing a rope!
Plen’y of heart and plen’y of hope.
Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweepin’ down the plain
And the wavin’ wheat can sure smell sweet
When the wind comes right behind the rain.
Oklahoma, Ev’ry night my honey lamb and I
Sit alone and talk and watch a hawk
Makin’ lazy circles in the sky.
We know we belong to the land
And the land we belong to is grand!
And when we say
Yeeow! Ayipioeeay!
We’re only sayin’
You’re doin’ fine, Oklahoma!
Oklahoma O.K.

Now, thats gotta count for something. Someday, somehow, my ability to quote those words from heart will pay off; and on that day Mrs. Wilson-English Teacher will stand a little taller, a little prouder.
or maybe not

Hey, you and Amy repeating that so many times on the way to school made it so easy for me when I had to memorize it for Mrs Stallder, I already knew it and didn’t even have to try.

This is the centenial year for OK. It became a state in 1907. It is the 46th state. The state song was written by Rogers and Hammerstein. Great musical staring Shirly Jones.
The trail of tears ended in eastern Ok for the five Civilized tribes.
(This was either posted by Mom, Dad, or Amy whoever it was was logged in as me.) Let me know which one of you said this and I’ll change it. While your at it could you also log out. Thanks)

Yeah, thanks to you and Amy, and the countless hours of youth group trips where we had to listen to that song, I learned it, too. (I’m really glad I did, too!)

Did you tell him how much you goofed off during your OK History class? How can you remember anything? We did have fun though! : ) I miss being so young and innocent. Working at the school sure brings back all those happy memories! (when we were young)

Moriah, those were good times! Remember when Coach Tube lifted Drew Begley’s desk into the air, with him still in it!
