  1. I have unfortunately become a one issue voter because of how dramatically that issue is affecting our country, our standing in the world, and my family. Because of that right now the only candidate I can vote for in good conscious is Barack Obama even though I disagree with him on over 90% of the other issues.

It is not too late for a Republican to wake up and stand up for what is right; but I sure haven’t seen that yet.

I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday about the extensions. He has a seven year old girl. He has been home with his girl a total of 18 months of her life, and just got extended yesterday meaning it will be over a year from now before he is back home with his wife and daughter. This is his first tour in Afghanistan, after doing three in Iraq, two of which were extended. He is not unique.

  2. A stark reminder of how war changes people.

Please email me a link to what he has said on this issue so I can better understand where you’re coming from.

While you’re at it, please stay safe.

  3. Send me your email address and I will let you know. You can hear it in his announcement address from Springfield, Illinois a couple of months ago when he first declared himself a candidate. His speech there had everyone over here excited for weeks, and that was before the extensions.

  4. One other note; I have felt the same way about this issue since before it happened in 2003; Amy can vouch for that. I have become more vocal as it has begun to affect me more.

  5. I wasn’t implying your view on this issue has changed, I was focusing more on your vocalizing a vote for a democrat. You have to admit that is a glaring difference from where you once threw your voice.

Please note that I am not judging your position I’m just trying to better understand it as it relates to Obama.

  7. I understand Jami. My view has changed dramitically in the last few years in large part due to the war; I just didn’t want someone who may not know to think my view has changed in the few months I have been in Afghanistan. Being here has definetely confirmed what I have thought for several years, but not changed what I think is going on in Washington.

Thanks for starting this discussion; I think it is one that not nearly enough people are having!
