Friday morning the kids and I prepared for a trip to town. Together we made a two week menu then I converted it into a shopping list. Kaleb and Charleigh got ready to head over to Grandma’s and Joshua whose turn it was to go with me searched the house for a missing quarter and his red and blue shoes. By the time I was ready to go he had found the shoes but not the quarter. I buckled him up anyway and assured him we’d find the quarter when we got home.
That afternoon Joshua sat in the shopping cart as we strolled down the aisles of Wal*Mart. The basket was already half full when we got to the taco shells. I grabbed two boxes of the GV variety and continued on my way. Joshua stopped me
-Please, oh Mommy please get the ones with Spider Man on them!
-No, honey they cost three times more than these and they taste just the same.
-But these ones have Spiderman in them.
-Actually they don’t, they’re just regular ole taco shells with a picture of Spiderman on the front, it’s just a marketing ploy.
-Huh?
-I mean they put Spiderman’s picture on the front of the box so little boys will get their mommies to buy it when really on the inside of the box are just regular taco shells.
- So what you’re saying is that Spider man is tricking us…
- Well, that’s not really what I’m saying…
- Yes, it is! Spiderman is tricking us to spend more money on regular taco shells!
I decided to just let it go and continue with our shopping,
Joshua sat quietly pondering, as we maneuvered our way down five more aisles. As I filled the cart with groceries his pondering turned into brooding. Suddenly with smoldering eyes he looked up and exclaimed:
“I bet Spiderman is the one who stole my quarter!”
