You’ve gotta watch this clip of Gianna Jessen

Here’s her bio taken from her site

Gianna Jessen’s Biography

Gianna Jessen does not quit. Giving up is not an option to her. Gianna has what she refers to as the “gift” of Cerebral Palsy. She weighed a mere 2 lbs at birth and the doctors said she would never be able to hold up her head, sit up, crawl or walk. She began to walk by the age of three years old with the help of leg braces and a walker.

Gianna doesn’t believe that her Cerebral Palsy takes away her life, but, rather, enriches it. . . she walks with a slight limp today and runs marathons. On April 30, 2005 she completed her first 26.2 mile marathon after running just over 7 hours and was presented with the coveted blank blank award! On April 23, 2006 she completed the London Marathon as well. She is now determined to run marathons all over the place, because she was never supposed to even walk!

Gianna understands the plight of orphans, being one herself. She was placed into the foster care system early on in life, eventually being taken into the loving home of a woman named Penny. Penny has been a mother to 56 foster children in her life. Gianna was later adopted by Penny’s daughter, making Penny Gianna’s grandmother. According to Gianna, Penny saved her life.

Gianna is a Christian. Her life was given to her by the grace of God. She shouldn’t be walking, but more miraculous still; she should not even be alive. Gianna’s biological mother was 17 when she had a saline abortion in her third trimester. Many Americans don’t realize it is legal to have an abortion throughout all nine months of pregnancy. After being burned alive for approximately 18 hours in the womb from the saline solution, Gianna was delivered alive in a Los Angeles County abortion clinic. Her medical records state, “born during saline abortion”…this is what caused her Cerebral
Palsey.

Well actually sans 1 penny but I’m not one to say “Under 5 bucks!” when it’s only one penny short of an Abe Lincoln.

The most anticipated birthday ever has finally arrived! Joshua has been looking forward to 6 and talking about it every day since the day before he turned 5.
Joshua turns 6

Yesterday we celebrated by going to the pool in Sunray with the Glazner’s. Well actually Amy and I had already planned on going but I took the opportunity to build it up and get B-day credits for it. When I bought him a bag of Fritos at the snack stand he turned and said “Thanks for the birthday chips!” “Sure, kid. . .happy uh. . .birthday.”

Even when Kaleb did this dive he passed it off as a Joshua Birthday Surprise.
kaleb dives

We do that a lot around here, manipulate I mean. In fact this morning I was even able to pass off the Cinnamon Toast Crunch as a grand birthday surprise.

mmmm cinnamon

Tonight we’re having his choice of menu for his birthday dinner, he’s chosen BBQ meatballs with Mac N Cheese, Carrots and Cinnamon Cake. (The kid likes cinammon) I’m going to have to come up with someway to make that meal dairy and wheat free. . .not sure how that’s going to work out.

I did find this recipe from our newestTaste of Home

Barbecued Meatballs- Dairy Free, Wheat Free
prep:25min / Bake 20 min
1 egg beaten
1 cup crisp rice cereal, crushed, divided
1 TB finely chopped onion
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 pound ground beef

Sauce:
1/4 cup brown sugar
3 TB ketchup
1 tsp prepared mustard
1/8 tsp ground nutmeg

In a large bowl, combine the egg, 3/4 cup cereal, onion, salt and pepper. Crumble beef over mixture and mix well. For sauce, in a small bowl combine the remaining ingredients. Add 2 TB sauce to meat mixture; mix well. Shape into 1 1/2 in balls.
Place meatballs on a greased rack in a shallow baking pan. Brush with remaining sauce; sprinkle with remaining cereal. Bake, uncovered, at 400 degrees for 20 -25 minutes or until no longer pink; drain Yield: 1 1/2 dozen

I haven’t tried it yet but I’ll let you know how it turns out.

His party is Sunday after church, the invite list is well over 40 so we’ll be cutting the menu down to hotdogs and chips. With of course, cinnamon ice cream and cinnamon cake. Mmmm cinnamon. If we know you and you’re not an internet wacko then you’re invited too! Just give me a call to RSVP. The food may not be great but the people that will be here are more than enough to make up for that! We have some pretty awesome friends and we don’t mind sharing them.

Allergy Warning:
The Cinnamon Toast Crunch is NOT wheat free.
(Joshua is not the one with allergies so this morning he was blessed with sugary cereal covered in REAL cow milk)

Also: In the meatball recipe make sure to double check the rice cereal and buy one without wheat or milk.

I understand that these notes aren’t actual blog worthy posts; I’m just trying to get back into the hang of posting anything at all. Real stuff will come I promise. . . besides I don’t think any of you are there anymore anyway.

Nehemiah 7:73-9:21; 1 Corinthians 9:1-18; Psalm 33:12-22; Proverbs 21:11-12

Still no time to write and discuss here are just a few of my quick notes:

In Nehemiah 8 :When Ezra read the law to the people and they understood they began to mourn and weep. Nehemiah told them to “not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” They were then instructed to go out “to make great rejoicing, because they had understood the words that were declared to them. ”

Nehemiah 9 is very powerful as Israel confesses their sin then stand and bless the Lord.

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD,” the whole selection from Psalms it great, I would copy the whole thing and put it here had I not already linked to it.

Kaleb and Charleigh are starting the One Year Bible reading plan today as well. They will be reading Jan 1 today.

Another perk of living in town is Vacation Bible School. The kids are going to two this week. In the mornings they go to an Assemblies of God for 3 hours, and in the evenings they visit a Presbyterian VBS for another 2 1/2 hours. Last week was the 1st Street Church of Christ, we missed that one. . .I must have been out of my mind. I love VBS/Kids Camp/whatever your church calls it. If you’ve got songs with hand motions, crafts, snacks, Bible Stories, and a puppet we’re in.

The Summer of 2005 was an awesome VBS summer. We lived in Dalhart and the kids went to every VBS but one. Living in the country for the last two summers the kids and mom have missed out big time!

Just a quick note to say I love love LOVE living in town! Not only do I love the new house and the great yard but the fantabulous neighbors and the abundance of friendly drop ins and the fact that I can drive to the store for soy milk anytime I please and oh yes; I have yet to find a snake on my front porch. I can’t even count all the wonderful friends that live here, if I tried I’d be sure to forget someone. People may think we’re crazy for moving here but now that I’m here I’d think we were crazy if we didn’t.

Good Times.
