Gianna Jessen: Survivor/Conquerer

Filed under: Faith, Freedom — Posted by Jami Leigh at 3:22 pm on Tuesday, August 26, 2008

You’ve gotta watch this clip of Gianna Jessen

Here’s her bio taken from her site

Gianna Jessen’s Biography

Gianna Jessen does not quit. Giving up is not an option to her. Gianna has what she refers to as the “gift” of Cerebral Palsy. She weighed a mere 2 lbs at birth and the doctors said she would never be able to hold up her head, sit up, crawl or walk. She began to walk by the age of three years old with the help of leg braces and a walker.

Gianna doesn’t believe that her Cerebral Palsy takes away her life, but, rather, enriches it. . . she walks with a slight limp today and runs marathons. On April 30, 2005 she completed her first 26.2 mile marathon after running just over 7 hours and was presented with the coveted blank blank award! On April 23, 2006 she completed the London Marathon as well. She is now determined to run marathons all over the place, because she was never supposed to even walk!

Gianna understands the plight of orphans, being one herself. She was placed into the foster care system early on in life, eventually being taken into the loving home of a woman named Penny. Penny has been a mother to 56 foster children in her life. Gianna was later adopted by Penny’s daughter, making Penny Gianna’s grandmother. According to Gianna, Penny saved her life.

Gianna is a Christian. Her life was given to her by the grace of God. She shouldn’t be walking, but more miraculous still; she should not even be alive. Gianna’s biological mother was 17 when she had a saline abortion in her third trimester. Many Americans don’t realize it is legal to have an abortion throughout all nine months of pregnancy. After being burned alive for approximately 18 hours in the womb from the saline solution, Gianna was delivered alive in a Los Angeles County abortion clinic. Her medical records state, “born during saline abortion”…this is what caused her Cerebral
Palsey.

Charleigh made this sign for Mike Huckabee

I missed the picture of her giving it to him, but here he is with the sign in hand, telling her thank you. She’s the one behind the sign . . .

This man is one of the friendliest I’ve met. Look at the shine in his eyes! We didn’t get his name but I witnessed him give his seat up at least 10 times untill finally there were no seats left. He ended standing up in the balcony wearing the same smile. His joy blessed many strangers.

Deputy fired after filing for election

After filing to run as Moore County Sheriff, former Moore County Sheriff’s Deputy Eloy Ortiz was surprised to find out he would no longer be employed by the county.

“We figured I’d still have a job and it’s not going to bother me, but when I told him that I was running for Sheriff against him, he did tell me ‘I’m sorry you can’t work for me because you’re running against me for Sheriff,’” said Ortiz.

Moore County Sheriff Bo DeArmond said that the reason he let Ortiz go was because Ortiz disagrees with the way he runs his office.

“The deputy is an extension of the Sheriff and you have to trust that deputy to go out and put a good light to the Moore County Sheriff’s Office and the Sheriff,” said DeArmond. “If you can’t have that trust in somebody to do that then you have to do something.”

In fact we found out that this isn’t too uncommon in Sheriff’s departments in Texas. Randall County Sheriff Joel Richardson told us that most of the time the deputy will resign from the Sheriff’s department when they file for election. Sheriff DeArmond said it’s to keep a good working relationship within the office.

“My job as a sheriff is to provide city residents with the best law enforcement I can, and it’s hard to do that when you have division within the Sheriff’s office,” said DeArmond.

Regardless, Ortiz told us that he’s put this all behind him and he’s looking forward to the election.

“It’s not something for me to dwell on,” said Ortiz. “I moved on already. I’m letting it go because it’s already in the past and that’s where it’s going to stay. It’s not an issue right now. It’s just focus on running for office and getting it done…that’s it.”

Only time will tell what happens. The primary election will be March 4th. Aside from DeArmond and Ortiz, Tom Flood from the Dumas Police Department will also be running in the election.

Get to know Eloy Ortiz:

To the citizens of Moore County, Friends and neighbors, my name is Eloy Ortiz and I am running for Sheriff. I want you to remember me when you go to the polls on voting day. I would like you to know that I want the job, and that I ask for and need your support.

I was born and raised in New Mexico. I have been a Texas resident for 26 years, and a resident of Moore County for four years. I am married to a very lovely woman, Theresa; we have two sons and three beautiful granddaughters. After working 14 years in the service department at Plains Dairy in Amarillo, I became a contractor with FedEx Ground. I continue today to operate a successful business with FedEx Ground. I am proud to say that I have been in and a part of the Moore County area for eight years serving businesses and residences in Dumas, Sunray, Etter, Cactus as well as the Dalhart area. I enjoy serving people in any way that I am able to. I currently serve on the board of the Dumas Area Crisis Pregnancy Center, which is an awesome provider of ministry and other services to women in our area. I volunteer as a driver for Meals on Wheels and I have met some very interesting people who, even though they may have some disability, have a lot to say when we listen to and care for them. I was an officer for the Cactus Police Department for one year where I was named Officer of the Year in 2004. I was a Deputy of Moore County where I was named Deputy of the Year in 2005. I am no longer employed a s a Deputy in Moore County as of 12-28-07. Many of you know me as a man of my word, and I believe this trust is a very important reason why I am the best choice to be a leader in our community. I am proud to have served you in my duties as a law enforcement officer. For those who do not know me, I llok forward to meeting you and serving you to the best of my ability. I treat everyone with the respect that I would expect from them. My wife and I are members of and attend Grace Thru Faith Church in Dumas. God is very important in my life and I strive to live by His word. I thank God everyday for the opportunity He gives me to minister to every one I come in contact with. I want to thank you, my community, for the opportunity to protect and serve you to the best of my ability and to establish a relationship that will endure for many years to come. I am asking you for the opportunity to be elected as Sheriff of Moore County in the primary election on March 4, 2008. May God Bless you abundantly.

Eloy and Theresa Ortiz have been a great blessing to our family. This year we have been honored to have them as our host home for our small group. Each week they welcome us with open arms and open hearts. As we’ve come to know them we’ve seen time and time again that Eloy has a true heart for this community and all the residents in it. A more genuine man I’ve not met. Proud to call him friend and family I’m looking forward to calling him Sheriff.

More than a movie: Amazing Grace (Now on DVD)

Filed under: Faith, Freedom — Posted by Jami Leigh at 1:41 pm on Wednesday, November 14, 2007

In honor of the recent DVD Release I am reposting my March review of “Amazing Grace”

444930: Amazing Grace, DVD Amazing Grace, DVD

Amazing movie, amazing website: Amazing Grace

This is a must see movie as well as a must visit site. Kurt and I went last weekend and where blown away by the beauty of this film.

The movie Amazing Grace brings to life the story of anti-slavery pioneer William Wilburforce as he struggles through 18th century politics to bring an end to the slave trade in Great Britain. This powerful movie not only reminds us of our past but inspires us to continue in the conviction and fight to end the slavery that still exists today.

The Amazing Change, a campaign inspired by the movie strives to “Carry on Wilburforce’s Vision of Mercy and Justice”. Visit “The Amazing Change” to learn more about Wilburforce, Slavery then and now, about their campaign and to find out what you can do to make a difference today.

NOT FOR SALE is another campaign to end slavery in our lifetime.

All these sites are rich with resources. There are even download-able study guides, faith guides, movie clips, and songs.
There are resources to learn more before you see the movie and tools for discussion after you see it.

See the movie, visit the sites and re-become an Abolitionist.

Brothers And Sisters In Chains

Filed under: Faith, Freedom — Posted by Jami Leigh at 10:37 am on Tuesday, October 23, 2007

Among the many vital tools Voice of the Martyrs offers to help us remember our brothers and sisters in chains is B.A.S.I.C. Check it out and get involved.

b.a.s.i.c. Fellowship exists to:
encourage partnership with our brothers and sisters in chains
report activities of believers in behalf of the persecuted church
promote prayer, local projects, and other awareness programs
communicate with local believers and stimulate involvement
provide a place to exchange ideas and encourage each other

b.a.s.i.c. fellowship is:

Fellowship
The acrostic, b.a.s.i.c., stands for “brothers and sisters in chains.” Fellowship comes from the union we have, in Christ Jesus, and with other believers. This includes believers both here at home and in the most restricted countries of the world.

Sharing Ideas
b.a.s.i.c. Fellowship is a network of friends sharing ideas. These ideas not only tell the story of the persecuted, but also deepen our fellowship with God through the examples and victories of the persecuted church.

Making the Voice of the Persecuted Heard
b.a.s.i.c. Fellowship is making the voice of our brothers and sisters in chains heard in communities and churches across America.

Leading Others Into the Fellowship of Sufferings
b.a.s.i.c. Fellowship consists of average people finding ways to lead others into the fellowship of sufferings with our brothers and sisters in chains.

Speaking of getting involved; Matt Rose, A Voice of the Martyr Representative will be visiting Dumas, TX next week and discussing Enduring Faith.

It’s time to say it:

While this is not a political blog. . .well as of late not really a blog at all. . .but I digress. . .While this is not a political blog, it is mine. It’s a place where I occasionally share my heart and views. Today I want to say:
I like Mike

Mike Huckabee that is. You know who I’m talking about don’t you? You should, he’s a Republican presidential canidate and he’s worth taking a look at.

While there are other canidates I can half heartedly support, Mike Huckabee is the one canidate I can proudly stand behind without first having to brush moral convictions aside.

Apparently I’m not the only one speaking up on Huckabee this week. Check out what Chuck Norris had to say yesterday over at World Net Daily.
Mr. Norris wrote a great heart-felt endorsement of the former gov. and since I’m short on time I’ll send you over to him until I can write my own.

While lookng around please check out this post, Our Faith Makes Us. It was written by Mike Huckabee and featured on his Vertical Day Blog

Thanks to our slow connection I’ve yet to check out the video. If you get a chance let me know what you think of it and if it’s worth the download time.
